The afternoon session will include evaluations and delineations in the field surrounding the Motor Speedway, with critiques and discussion.Download the flier for more details and to sign up for the workshop.

About the Workshop:
This hands-on workshop is designed for individuals interested in learning how to use practical, low cost techniques for restoring naturally appearing and functioning wetlands. Participants will see how wetland projects can be planned in land trust properties and other private conserved lands, public land, and even on school grounds to benefit plants, animals, and people. Through direct participation in an actual wetland restoration project at Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary, attendees will discover how to identify degraded wetlands suitable for restoration, test soils, choose construction techniques, work with heavy equipment operators, and establish native plants. Also, through a series of presentations, participants will learn about active management projects involving rare wetland species including Mass Audubon’s Eastern Spadefoot Toad Restoration Project on Cape Cod. Field trips to proposed and existing wetland restoration project sites are included.
Cost: $175 which includes lunches on two days, hand-out materials, signed copy of the book Wetland Drainage, Restoration, and Repair by Thomas Biebighauser, and more!

July 22 - July 26, 2013 at Middlebury Inn, Founders Room, Middlebury, VT
This is a basic interdisciplinary course in wetland restoration and enhancement where participants learn to assess wetland functions, develop restoration and enhancement plans, and implement plans on degraded wetlands. The course emphasizes wetland ecology, wildlife needs, enhancement of wetland functions, conceptual design and implementation processes, and monitoring considerations. The course consists of two portions. The first portion is a self-pace workbook to be reviewed prior to attending the on-site portion of the class. The workbook contains readings and exercises on wetland ecology and wildlife principles applicable to different wetland types. The on-site portion provides detailed, discussions, field demonstrations, and reinforces the principles covered in the workbook. Depending upon enrollment, the course location will be selected to emphasize the following wetland types: bottomland hardwoods, prairie potholes, Carolina bay and flats, depressional wetlands, floodplains, northwest freshwater wetlands, and others.
Visit the US F&W web site for more information and to sign up for the course.
